BIG Rules Update!

You may have heard some rumours... and they were true! Lots of changes coming to the U150 format. In addition to a general rules tidy up the main changes are:

* A new "Elite 4" list of Trainer cards which are sent to the Lost Zone (removed from the game) after use. They are Energy Removal, Super Energy Removal, Gust of Wind, Goop Gas Attack.

* Changes to how EX errata is applied. The 130HP rule for making Basics into EXs is gone and replaced with an 80HP rule that prevents low HP Pokemon from ever being reclassified as EX.

* Greninja and Greninja BREAK from Breakpoint are banned in U150.

-----------------------------

The "Elite 4" rule is the type of thing we generally try to avoid - applying spot rulings to individual cards as opposed to blanket rulings to wide groups. But unfortunately, these cards have defined the game for a long time now, often controlling the course of a game and making it a battle of Trainer cards and recursion, rather than actual Pokemon. Rather than ban these classic cards we decided to break our own rules a little and errata them.

The EX errata is in U150 to form a more consistent power-level across all generations of Pokemon cards. The 130HP rule is being removed in preparation for holo reprints of Yveltal and Xerneas in the upcoming XY11 set. This also removes the EX rule from many high HP Basics that were previously unplayable due to poorer attacks. We've replaced this with a new HP-dependant rule with the opposite effect. Now some low HP utility Pokemon escape the EX ruling they'd normally be caught under, opening up many more options to deck builders.

As the post-Black & White era progresses, we're starting to see a few more Evolution cards in sets that are clearly made to compete with the high HP, high power Basic Pokemon of recent years. The Greninja cards from Breakpoint seems to fall into this category and were of too high a power-level to fairly compete in U150.

So, 2 cards leave the format, but now many more cards have opened up as viable options. That "Fliptini" coin flip deck is no longer punished with a 60HP EX, Lost Zone decks have access to safer new strategies with Mew Prime and Absol Prime. Some recent "big Basics" like Snorlax can also make an attempt at competition without giving up a quarter of your opponent's prizes.

We hope these changes make the format more fun to play and as always, please send in your suggestions, ideas and event results. This format was created by fans, for fans and continues to grow bigger and stronger the more input we get.
